About the role
Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer and based onsite at the Silverwater Corporate Office, you will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Harvey Norman's enterprise data governance framework, policies, standards, and operating model.
You will also own the implementation and optimisation of Data Governance platforms, including data catalogue, data classification, data discovery, data lineage, and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) solutions, ensuring effective integration across enterprise systems and cloud environments.
As part of this role, you will lead the transformation of Harvey Norman’s data governance capability, ensuring enterprise data is trusted, secure and strategically leveraged to support business growth, regulatory compliance and emerging technologies such as AI.
You will;
- Lead and continuously enhance the enterprise data governance framework, ensuring data is managed consistently and effectively across Harvey Norman.
- Establish and lead Data Governance forums, including the Data Governance Council, Data Owner and Data Steward forums.
- Partner with business, IT, Risk, Legal, Privacy, and Architecture teams to embed governance controls and accountability across business processes and platforms.
- Provide subject matter expertise on data governance, data risk, privacy, regulatory compliance, and third-party risk management.
- Develop and maintain data governance policies, standards, controls, and processes that support data quality, integrity, accessibility, and compliance.
- Lead governance initiatives, including data quality remediation programs, data literacy and awareness campaigns, and capability uplift activities.
- Drive the implementation and ongoing use of data governance tools, including data catalogues, classification, and data discovery solutions.
- Ensure enterprise data is secure, compliant, and trusted, enabling informed decision-making while minimising operational and regulatory risk.
About you
You are an experienced Data Governance professional with a strong track record of developing and embedding enterprise-wide data governance frameworks, policies, and standards. You possess a deep understanding of data management, data quality, metadata, privacy, and regulatory compliance, and are passionate about enabling organisations to maximise the value of their data assets.
You will also have;
- Experience implementing data governance tooling (e.g. Purview, Collibra, Alation, Informatica).
- Experience with data discovery, classification projects.
- Experience operating in cloud environments (Azure or SaaS ecosystems).
- Proven experience designing, implementing, and managing enterprise Data Governance frameworks and operating models.
- Strong knowledge of data management principles, data quality, metadata management, master data management, and governance best practices.
- Sound understanding of privacy legislation, data risk management, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Experience establishing data ownership and stewardship models and driving accountability across large organisations.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across business and technical teams.
- Demonstrated experience leading governance initiatives, data maturity programs, and organisational change.
Certifications (Desirable)
- Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) – highly relevant for governance.
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
- DAMA-DMBOK or equivalent formal data governance training.
